CHRISTMAS 2016

Dear Former Pupils and Members of Staff,

In this troubled, war torn world we have the joy of the anticipation of the celebration of the Birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ, The Prince of Peace. We pray that he will bring Peace to the sad world. May he bring peace and joy to you and all those dear to you.

We have had a busy year, changes are coming as more of our younger members are willing to come forward to help run the Association We were delighted when SHAN COUPE (WILSON) AND JACQUI RICHARDS (McCORMACK) came forward, at the Reunion and offered to take on the role of Treasurers, the answer to prayers. We thank EILEEN HUGHES for her years of service, I am pleased to say that she is recovering well from the surgery. We now have several younger Committee members, the most recent being JO HENNESSY.

It is so gratifying to see this keenness to keep the Association strong and forward looking. How about a new, younger Chair?!! We have pleasure in announcing that GERALDINE NICHOLLS (MAHY) has agreed to become an HONORARY VICE PRESIDENT in recognition of her years of active support of the Association, back to the time when it was known the Concrozians. At 94 Geraldine feels that she is too old to become full President. She hosts our Committee meetings at her home, even now when we have returned to evening meetings, to accommodate the younger members who work.

The Reunion was a happy afternoon, not so many there but a most enjoyable time, despite the emergency when MAUREEN HUNT'S (DALY) husband had a fall and she had to leave in a hurry. MAUREEN always takes charge in the kitchen and keeps us supplied with teas, coffees and cakes. SHAN AND JACQUI went into the kitchen, where LINDA HOOPER ioined them, when she had finished her work in Reception. All the present Committee members worked to make it a good occasion.

THE NEXT REUNION IS BOOKED FOR SUNDAY JULY 2 AT THE SCHOOL HALL OF ST. THOMAS GARNET'S SCHOOL IN PARKWOOD ROAD, FROM 2.30 p.m.

LINDA HOOPER brought some of the Convent of the Cross crockery, which she collected from Springhill Convent, it is attractive with the crest on it and the blue and white colouring. It was very well received and many people took some, leaving a donation. She hopes to bring over some more for next year. LINDA will organise a gift for the Convent from some of the donations.

SISTER MAY MAGENIS has settled into the Convent at Sittingbourne, after a good holiday in Ireland with her family. SISTER KATE MORTON leads the team of sisters and carers there at Sittingbourne.

SISTER MARGUERITE COWARD is at the Convent in France, the addresses were in the Spring newsletter. MARGARET SIMPSON (ATKINS) met with her for a coffee, when Sr Marguerite was in Bournemouth visiting family.

The Subscription is still 5.00 a year, details of how to pay, a Standing Order form and information for paying online can be found later on in the newsletter.

Please keep your news coming in - send to the Editor, ANNE WINIECKI We wish you all the Blessings of Christmastide and good health and happiness for you and your loved ones in the New Year and always.

MARY BROOKS (BROWNING) - Chair & Editor.

THE REUNION, 2016

The afternoon was, as usual, an enjoyable occasion although tinged with sadness as we remembered our late President Jean Walsh. Committee members were busy ensuring that everything was provided to make it a successful occasion whether it was manning the reception area, making refreshments and news gathering or collecting subscriptions and donations for the Christmas hamper for former pupil and staff member Sr PATRICIA MACKENZIE and the nuns at her Carmelite Monastery in Wetherby.
If you wish to donate to the HAMPER FUND, your contribution can also be included in your subscriptions payment.

The following is a list of those who signed the Visitors' Book at the last Reunion; if you do not sign we have no record of your attendance; those who are unable to attend like to read the names of those who have been present. We ask that you are consistent in the way you sign your name- the preferred way is the surname, by which you are known for postal use, with the name by which you were known at school after it in brackets.
