E-MAIL ADDRESS -
Dear Former Pupils and Members of Staff,
As I write this the sun is shining and the sky is blue; trees and shrubs are bursting forth with new growth, bright golden yellows and pink blossoms ! We rejoice in the Risen Christ and renewed life, May your lives be blessed with good health and contentment . We pray for peace in our fives and in this troubled world,
This is the time of the year when we look forward to our Annual Reunion.
THIS YEAR ON SUNDAY 28th JUNE 2015 IS THE 35th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CLOSURE OF THE CONVENT:
TO MARK THIS OCCASION WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE PERMISSION TO HAVE A VISIT TO OUR FORMER CONVENT. BECAUSE OF NECESSARY SECURITY AT THE COLLEGE, WE HAVE ARRANGED THAT THOSE WHO WISH TO VISIT WILL BE PAST PUPIL AND WE WILL LEAVE FROM THE ST. THOMAS GARNET SCHOOL HALL.
AFTER I HAVE 'PHONED THE SECURITY GUARD, WHO WILL OPEN UP THE COLLEGE, AND WE WILL GO IN VIA THE MAIN ENTRANCE AT ABOUT 3.30.P.M. STICKY LABELS WILL BE ISSUED TO YOU ON ARRIVAL AT THE REUNION.HALL DOORS, WHICH WILL BE OPEN FROM 2 P.M.
There will not be a mention of the visit to the College in the advertisements for the Reunion in the Church newsletters, press etc , again for security reasons, so please pass the details around to friends, who might not be paid up members so will not receive a copy of the newsletter.
We are very grateful to Mr Peter Ford, the Director of Administration, for arranging this for us. We also have permission to use the big carpark on Parkwood Road. There is limited parking at St Thomas Garnet School for disabled people and for Committee Members, who have things to transport. We look forward to seeing a good crowd of you.
Membership subscriptions are still £5.00 a year, for which you get 2 newsletters - before Christmas and in the Spring, The Treasurer, Eileen Hughes will be taking subscriptions on the day. We are very grateful to ANNIE WINIECKI, who has taken on the role of Editor of the Newsletters, please support her with items of interest to be published.
I thank the members of the Committee, whose support helps to keep the Association strong. They will be there on Reunion day to took after your needs. Tea and coffee will be provided for you.
PLEASE NOTE THE DATE OF THE REUNION, SUNDAY 28TH JUNE. NOT THE USUAL
We wish you good health and all Blessings.
With all best wishes,
Throughout this newsletter the names of former pupils and members of staff will be in capital letters. Where it is applicable the name by which they were known at school will be printed after the surname, within brackets.
We feel there is still a need and liking for a Past Pupils' Association, which keeps you in touch with former friends and members of staff. Its continuance and strength depends on you, particularly the younger people. Nowadays we have Facebook and Friends Reunited, but feel there is still a place for this link.
The Annual Reunion at St Thomas Garnet School, formerly our Junior School, is a special one this year and we hope that many of you will be able to attend.
YOUR COMMITTEE MEMBERS ARE:-
JEAN WALSH (HIGHES) - PRESIDENT
MARY BROOKS (BROWNING) - CHAIR
EILEEN HUGHES - HON. TREASURER
PAMELA BLAKE (KENNARD)
LINDA HOOPER (HERBERT)
MAUREEN HUNT (DALY)
FIONA WARD (KNOTT)
MARGARET SIMPSON (ATKINS)
ANNE WINIECKI - EDITOR OF NEWSLETTER
They keep the Association running smoothly in various ways, especially in the organisation and enjoyment of the Reunion. EILEEN keeps the finances in order throughout the year; MARGARET works hard over the Christmas period and into January, ordering the Hamper and later copying and sending Sr. PATRICIA MACKENZIE'S letter of thanks to all those who contribute to the Hamper.
MARGARET and her husband Norman kindly keep the membership database up to date and print the address labels for us.
We are grateful to GERALDINE NICHOLLS (MAHY) for hosting our committee meetings at her home in Southboume. For very many years GERALDINE was a committee member and is still active in spreading the word about the association whenever she can.
We are pleased to be able to keep the subscriptions to £5.00 a year; that pays for printing and postage and other expenses which occur. If you have been paying by Standing Order at the Bank for a while, please check that you increased the amount when it changed from £4.00 to £5.00.
EILEEN takes subscriptions at the Reunion and all the details for paying by cheque, Standing Order or online can be found at the back of this newsletter. It would be great to increase membership numbers this coming year. If you have any ideas for making the Association more interesting or meaningful for you we would welcome any suggestions.
NB If you forget to renew your subs we can only send the newsletters for 2 editions after subscriptions stop; we cannot afford to send it for longer.
MISS EILEEN HUGHES.
