NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS -
The renewal of life has come with all the joy and glory of Eastertide; although, as I write this, some Spring blossoms and foliage are tentatively appearing we are yet to enjoy the fullness of the renewal of life in the gardens and countryside. It has been a long Winter.
As you see I am still trying to bring a Newsletter to you, there has been no response to requests for someone to take on the task of Editor and I am loathe to see the end of this only means of communication between members, but don't know how much longer I will be able to continue. Please think about the future of the Association and help us.
Unfortunately St. Thomas Garnet School is no longer able to print the newsletter for us, I have found a local Print Shop where they will do it, for a reasonable cost.
In September the School will have a new Headteacher, I do not yet know who it will be. We will be sad to see the departure of JULIE -ANNE CUTLER ( MATTHEWS) and wish her a happy and fruitful retirement.
The Reunion is on the 1s1 Sunday in July, as usual; this year it will be 7th, The Hall at St. Thomas Garnet School, Parkwood Road, our former Junior School, will be open from 2.30 pm. As you know it is an informal occasion, a meeting place for you to chat over tea or coffee. Our Committee will look after you. You can come and go as you please; why not arrange to meet up with old friends for the afternoon.
Even if there is no-one of your year present we all have the school and staff as common interests. Please come and support your Association. Our President, JEAN WALSH ( HUGHES), who was on the Board of Trustees for the School told us that there was an agreement that the Past Pupils of The Convent should have the use of the Hall on the 1S| Sunday in July, I will verify that with the incoming Head.
We can only print news of Past Pupils if you supply it, please support us. My thanks to the Committee, whose interest and efforts keep us going. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday 7th July from 2.30p.m. We wish you all - good health, every blessing and a lovely Summer!
Throughout the newsletter the names of Past Pupils and members of staff, will be printed in capital letters. Where it is applicable the name by which they were known at school will be printed after the surname, within brackets.
We still have quite a good membership, although, sadly, some have died, and others are not renewing their subscriptions. Thank you to those of you who are still paid up members. If you miss out one year the next newsletter is sent to you but after that we are not able to continue to pay for the printing and postage. The subscriptions went up from £4 00 to £5.00 a few years ago, some have still not updated their Standing Order, please do so.
All the details for the paying of subscriptions can be found at the back of this edition, together with a Standing Order Form, which should be filled in and taken to your Bank. Your Committee Members are dedicated to keeping the Association going, most have been serving for many years; we badly need an injection of younger members. There are only 2 meetings a year, plus the Reunion. The meetings are held in October and March, on a Friday afternoon.
GERALDINE NICHOLLS (MAHY), kindly hosts them at her home in Southbourne. LINDA HOOPER (HERBERT) comes from Bristol and MAUREEN HUNT (DALY) from Wootton Bassett. We are very grateful to all Committee members for their continued efforts on your behalf. Whether or not the Association keeps going is up to you.
GLENN EDGELEY - LONG continues to keep the website up to date and I sometimes get contacts from past pupils who have found it. There is a Search on it, which will bring up information of the person you seek, if they are mentioned in any of the vast array of memorabilia to be found. Old School Magazines are reproduced as well as many pictures.
